Among visa complaints, one category stands apart: the application was never submitted. Weeks of updates, a portal screenshot, an assurance that it is 'with immigration' — and nothing was ever filed. This is the hardest version to accept and the strongest one to dispute, because official confirmation of absence is unusually clear evidence.

Check independently

Most destination countries provide a way to check an application's status directly with the immigration authority using a passport number, reference number or date of birth. Use it. Do not ask the agency to check for you — the whole point is obtaining information from a source that is not the party you are in dispute with.

If the authority holds no record of an application in your name, that is your answer. Capture it: the page, the date, the query you ran, the response. Where the authority offers a written confirmation or a request route for one, ask for it in writing.

Ask the one question that settles it

Request the official application reference number issued by the immigration authority — not the agency's internal file number. A genuine submission produces an official reference. An agency that has filed can supply it immediately. Sustained inability to produce one, across several requests, is itself informative.

Why screenshots prove little

Images of portals and dashboards are easy to construct and are commonly used to sustain the impression of progress. Treat any screenshot as a claim to be verified rather than evidence. If it shows a reference number, check that number with the authority yourself.

Using this in a dispute

The claim is clean: you paid for a submission that was not made. For a card payment, that is services not provided, and the official confirmation supports it directly. Assemble a short timeline, the payment record, the agency's promises in writing, and the authority's confirmation that no application exists. Send it to your card issuer, to the licensing authority, and to the police where the facts suggest deception.

On timing

Do not wait months hoping for resolution. Dispute windows are finite, and the strongest period is early, while communications are fresh and the business is still trading. Waiting is the single most common reason a recoverable case stops being recoverable.
