+FREE SELF-HELP GUIDE

Paid a visa agent and got nothing back?

This page is free and requires no sign-up. It sets out the steps that actually move these cases: verifying whether your application exists, challenging charges that were not disclosed, and escalating to the people who can compel a response.

Act on the card dispute first. It has a deadline, and waiting on an agent's promised refund is the most common reason these cases become unrecoverable.

STEP 1

Establish the facts before you argue

01

Ask for the official application reference

A genuine submission produces a reference number from the government system — not the agent's internal order number. Request it in writing.

02

Check the visa exists yourself

Most immigration authorities publish a status check you can use with your passport details. A "no record found" result, screenshotted, is powerful evidence.

03

Compare any insurance charge to the official fee

Where insurance is genuinely required, the official cost is published by the authority. Ask which insurer is attached to your file and what the authority's own fee is.

04

Get the refund policy in writing

Including the exact deduction percentage for cancellation, refusal, and where no application was ever submitted.

An official portal result showing that no application exists — captured with the date and the details you entered — is the single strongest document you can put in front of a card issuer or regulator.

STEP 2

Send a written demand with a deadline

Use email, not chat, so the record exists outside their system. Keep it factual — a regulator may read it later. Replace everything in brackets with your own details.

COMPLAINT TEMPLATE
Subject: Formal refund request and notice of escalation — [your reference / order number]

To whom it may concern,

On [date] I paid [amount and currency] to [company name] for [service, e.g. a UAE tourist visa application], on the basis that [what you were told — e.g. processing within 48-72 hours].

The following has occurred:
- [Fact 1, with date — e.g. "No application reference from the immigration authority has been provided."]
- [Fact 2, with date — e.g. "On [date] I checked the official portal and no application exists under my passport number."]
- [Fact 3, with date — e.g. "I was charged [amount] for insurance described as mandatory."]

I am requesting a full refund of [amount] to the original payment method within 14 days of this email.

If I do not receive a substantive response by [date], I will:
1. Raise a formal dispute with my card issuer for services not provided as described.
2. File a complaint with the consumer protection authority in the jurisdiction in which you are licensed.

I have retained all correspondence, payment records, and the result of my check with the immigration authority.

Please confirm receipt of this email.

Regards,

STEP 3

Escalate in parallel, not in sequence

Do not wait for the agent to reply before starting these. Running them at the same time is what preserves your options.

United Arab Emirates

  • Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism — consumer protection, for businesses licensed in Dubai.
  • UAE Ministry of Economy — national consumer complaints.
  • Check visa status with the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP), or GDRFA Dubai for Dubai-issued visas.

Saudi Arabia

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa portal — to verify whether an application or visa exists.
  • The Saudi embassy or consulate that handled the application, for confirmation of its status and any refund issued.

Wherever you paid from

  • Your card issuer — request a chargeback for services not provided as described. Ask for your filing deadline on the first call.
  • Your national consumer protection body, and your bank's dispute service if the card route is refused.

Authority names, portals, and procedures change. Confirm the current official channel on the relevant government website rather than relying on any link in a third-party article, including this one.

STEP 4

Keep the evidence together

  • A one-page timeline: what you were told, what you paid, and when, in order.
  • Payment records — card statement lines, transfer confirmations, receipts.
  • Every message where processing times, fees, or refunds were promised.
  • The result of your check with the immigration authority, screenshotted with the date.
  • Any official rejection document — and a note if you were only ever sent a chat message.
  • Reference numbers from each report you file.
